San Antonio Film Festival Update

That’s right! We recently had the opportunity to attend the 2009 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival. While Bringing up Bobby was not screened this year, we did get the chance to meet up with some really cool people and spread our cards around. We also showed the trailer to many people off of my portable music/ video player. It was a very positive experience!

As my friend Kyle Prohaska (of the film Standing Firm) helped me to see, the festival was a real reminder of God’s blessing. We had the chance to hunt down distributors with Nathan Webster, ask difficult questions, make some new friends, and learn more about what the Lord is doing through Christian films.

Some of the most notable films include:

The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry: by veteran filmmaker Rich Christiano. This film is all heart and very sweet. It follows a group of young boys who are mentored by an older man. God willing, it will be in theaters this September. Keep an eye out for it! Your family will love it.

The Prodigal Trilogy: A seriously creative look at the prodigal son story from Luke 15. I can’t even describe it, but it is worth a screening. It would be a perfect introduction into a sermon or youth study of the story.

Pendragon: This project just goes to show you how much families can accomplish when they come together. If you like medieval stories and action films, this project is for you.

Fireproof: You’ve heard of this one, haven’t you? Of course you have! It is the story of a firefighter whose marriage is in jeopardy and how he relies on the Lord is his quest to win back his wife. Check it out on DVD this month.

The Widow’s Might: If you are a homeschooler with a desire for an affirming film, though a little light on the gospel, check out the winner of the festival. This musical journey was very popular with the audience.

It was a real encouragement to meet so many filmmakers from so many different places. God really opened up some doors, especially in reminding me of just how many brothers and sisters we have working for similar goals. It was also a good chance to heal and to get over some jealousy I’d been storing up against other films. Thankfully God is merciful and it helped a ton to put some faces with the films. Please keep these projects and others from around the globe in your prayers!

As for Bringing up Bobby, we have had some exciting opportunities to hand out disks to distributors. We are currently waiting and praying as those distributors watch the project and discuss possible distribution. You never know! Maybe some day we’ll look at this past weekend as a major stepping stone for Bobby!

If you know of a church, pastors/ youth pastors conference, film festival, music festival or other public gathering that might be interested in pre-screening the film for their audience, please contact us! We’re currently in the process of collecting information for interested get-togethers. No group is too big or too small!

It was awesome visiting with you Chris and learning a lot while we were there. Everyone who watched the Bobby trailer had the same awesome smirk on their face. I can’t wait to see what God does with your film, you know I”ll always be there to support it! God Bless.

Kyle brings up something cool — I had the full (currently unreleased) trailer on my MP3 player. We played it to a dozen or so people and every last one of them had a smirk on their face as they watched it. We even had two people laughing out loud at the trailer! Praise God.

Hey Chris! It was great meeting you at the festival!…or rather at the riverside plaza hotel. :P …and thanks for showing us the trailer…looks amazing! I can’t wait to see the film! :D

God bless!
